It tells the stories of nearly 200 kings from Sri Lanka’s royal chronicles and includes over 180 detailed family trees. Each king’s ancestors and descendants are carefully recorded, along with their relatives and important officials. These family trees and portraits help us see how our royal lineage flows through history.
To create this book, over 300 historical sources were studied, including audio-visual programs on Sri Lanka’s Buddhist history. Each connection and fact is clearly referenced, so readers can trace the history themselves.
The book is designed especially for children. We studied how young minds learn and remember history, focusing on what sparks bravery, curiosity, and pride. Using portraits of our kings, this book encourages children to connect with the heroism of our past. Each illustration is the result of years of research and careful work.
There are over 200 full-color portraits in this book. Each king also has a unique QR code that links to more information online, including short cinematic videos. These help children explore and remember history in a fun and modern way.
To make it easier to navigate, the book uses colors for different capitals and numbers for each king. Important events from each reign are shown on the back of the portraits—like the Sacred Tooth Relic behind King Kirti Sri Meghavanna and the Jetavanarama Stupa behind King Mahasen—bringing history closer to young readers’ minds.
This book is not only full of information but also beautiful to look at. It has 650 full-color pages, designed to make history exciting, easy to follow, and memorable.
