King Jaththagahaka Janthu
Kingdom of Anuradhapura
432 AC - 433 AC

After the palace conflict, Princess Sangha, who killed King Sotthisena, handed over kingship to her husband. According to the Mahavamsa, his name reflects the office he held, indicating that he served as the Chattagahaka of King Mahanama. The name of the Chattagahaka appears in texts such as Rajarathnakara, Saddharmarathnakara, and Pujavali as Laminitis, showing that his name was Tissa and that he belonged to the Lambakarna dynasty. According to the term “Chattagahaka Pattu” in the Mahavamsa, some interpret his name as Pattu, meaning “animal” or “creature.” However, there is no evidence in the sources that he had any other claim to the kingdom except being the husband of the king’s daughter. Still, because he held an important position and was the king’s son-in-law, he must have had some influence in the palace.

The Chattagahaka king’s reign lasted one year, and the only recorded act during his rule was the construction of a tank in his name, according to the Mahavamsa.
