King Kuda Parinda
Kingdom of Anuradhapura
441 AC - 456 AC

After the passing of King Pandu and the death of his eldest son, King Parinda, Pandu’s younger son, Prince Kuda Parinda, ascended to the throne. Among the six Tamil rulers who invaded and ruled the island, he reigned for the longest period. Following the example of his father and elder brother, he sought out and eliminated all those who had claims to the throne.

It was during his reign that Prince Dhatusena began to emerge as a significant figure. Kuda Parinda did not hesitate to persecute anyone who supported Prince Dhatusena. Historical records indicate that this king embraced Buddhism, possibly as a means of gaining the goodwill and support of the local population. Furthermore, historical sources reveal that his queen donated paddy fields to the Abhayagiri Monastery.

Nevertheless, Kuda Parinda successfully thwarted Prince Dhatusena’s attempt to seize the kingdom.
