King Parakramabahu III
Kingdom of Yapahuwa
1287 AC - 1293 AC

With the death of King Bhuvanekabahu I, a famine also arose in the country. During this period, it is recorded in the second part of the Mahavamsa that an official named Arya Chakravarti, the minister of King Kulasekara of the Pandyan kingdom, arrived with a large army and besieged Yapahuwa, taking away the Sacred Tooth Relic.

From this point onward, for several years, there was no recognized king in Sri Lanka, and this period is considered an era of anarchy.

In AD 1287, Parakramabahu III, the son of King Vijayabahu IV, went to the Pandyan country and, without engaging in war, obtained the Tooth Relic and the Bowl Relic. He then ascended the throne, making Polonnaruwa his capital.

Although he ruled from Polonnaruwa, this period is still considered part of the Yapahuwa era. He is regarded as a highly pious king who performed daily offerings to the Sacred Tooth Relic. However, very little information is known about his services.

He ruled for six years until AD 1293.
