As mentioned in the previous section regarding King Bhuvanekabahu III, the name of this king is also recorded in verse 105 of Chapter 88 of the Mahavamsa. That verse states that after the death of King Parakramabahu IV, a king named Vanni Bhuvanekabahu ascended the throne, and after his death, Prince Jayabahu became king. This prince can be identified as King Vijayabahu V.

From this, it can be concluded that there is a gap or omission in the Mahavamsa. It appears that the author of the Mahavamsa was unable to obtain sufficient information when compiling the history of this period.

Overall, information regarding the kings who ruled during the Yapahuwa and Kurunegala periods, as well as their genealogies, is very scarce. The Mahavamsa concludes its account of King Bhuvanekabahu III, King Vijayabahu V, and the subsequent King Bhuvanekabahu IV in just four verses.

According to Professor Raj Somadeva, inscriptions found at Wilwala and Keragala mention the eleventh regnal year of this king. Accordingly, it can be assumed that King Bhuvanekabahu III and this king were contemporaries.
