King Parakramabahu V
Kingdom of Gampola
1344 AC - 1359 AC

After his brother, King Bhuvanekabahu IV, ascended the throne of Gampola, the younger son of King Vijayabahu V—also known as Sulu Vijayabahu—ruled from Dadigama, under the name Prince Parakramabahu. He can be identified as King Parakramabahu V.

Inscriptions reveal that this king served as “Epa” (a subordinate ruler or deputy) until the death of his brother. After an invasion by the Chola forces under the Arya Chakravartis, this king fled to Ruhuna.

An inscription found near Lahugala states that his queen, Vihara Maha Devi, governed Ruhuna during this period.

After the king’s retreat, the administration of Gampola was handed over to Vikramabahu, the son of his sister. However, this king’s rule effectively ended two years after the coronation of King Vikramabahu IV (in some sources, four years are mentioned).
