King Mahasiva
Kingdom of Anuradhapura
257 BC - 247 BC

After King Uttiya, his brother Prince Mahasiva ascended the throne. It is said that he visited the Thera Bhaddasala of the missionary group sent by Arahant Mahinda and built the temple named Nagarangana in the eastern region, which he offered to him.

Two cave inscriptions found near Mahiyangana, at a place called Olagangala, mention a king named “Siva.” Some scholars believe that this King Siva is the same ruler mentioned in the Mahavamsa. If so, it becomes clear from one of the inscriptions that his son was also named Siva, and that his son too bore the same name. Some of these individuals are referred to as “king,” while others are mentioned as “prince.” However, nothing about them is recorded in the Mahavamsa.

Regarding this king, the Mahavamsa provides only two verses containing brief details. It is stated that he ruled the kingdom for ten years.
